It's been a little over a year since Roger (Syd) Barrett passed away. The founder of Pink Floyd, he was dropped from the band after a tumultuous year (1967) of recording and touring. With 2.5 hit songs and a classic album (Piper at the Gates of Dawn), Syd re-emerged in 1969 to record The Madcap Laughs, followed by Barrett before retiring from the music scene, never to return again. While there are many stories, many claims, the fact is that he walked home from London (to Cambridge) and lived the rest of his years in his mother's house, painting.

The Iansanity Orchestra came into the CIUT studios in July to record - live off the floor with no overdubs - 9 of Syd's songs. They are: Ian McIntyre, lead vocals and guitars; Mark Doucet on background vocals; Allan Gavigan, bass; Jon McCann on drums. This is our tribute to Syd Barrett!

[The fourth song on side one of Piper - a fabulous song. The first Floyd album was recorded at Abby Road's Studio 3 at the same time that The Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper in Studio 2, by Norman Smith who had previously worked for George Martin as his EMI engineer. Apparently, there was a lot of interest by the Fab Four in what the Floyd were doing down the hall]

[The last official Syd Barrett song to appear on a Pink Floyd album - last song on side two of Saucerful of Secrets. It was recorded in 1967 when Syd was getting a little tired of being the front man of the band. While he wasn't credited with playing on Saucerful, it is Syd, his guitar and his voice, complete with a Salvation Army Band. Iansanity did an excellent job on this song]
