Each of the band members had a job during the week; Duffey repaired musical instruments, Eldridge was a mathematician, Starling a physician, Auldridge a graphic artist, and Gray a cartographer with National Geographic.

John Humbird Duffey, Jr. (b. Washington DC March 4, 1934 – d. Arlington VA December 10, 1996)
founded two of the most influential groups in bluegrass, The Country Gentlemen and The Seldom Scene
Inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor 2 months before he suffered a fatal heart attack

Denis Ryan, Fergus O'Byrne, and Dermot O'Reilly, were originally members of the Sons of Erin. The original Sons of Erin line-up featured Dermot and Fergus along with Gary Kavanagh and band leader Ralph O'Brien. When the band broke up Dermot, Fergus and Gary continued on for one tour as O'Reilly's Men and upon returning to Toronto met up with Don Sullivan to form the original Sullivan's Gypsies. Ralph O'Brien reformed The Sons Of Erin with new members Johnnie Lynn, John Cameron and Denis Ryan and recorded a self-titled LP. Shortly afterward Denis left to join Sullivan's Gypsies. Ryan's Fancy came to be when Sullivan's Gypsies parted ways.

Ernesto Antonio "Tito" Puente (April 20, 1923 – June 1, 2000)
Puerto Rican parents living in NYC
As a child, he was described as hyperactive, and after neighbors complained of hearing seven-year-old Puente beating on pots and window frames
Deeply influenced by the jazz drummer Gene Krupa
During the 1950s, Puente was at the height of his popularity
In 1979, Puente won the first of five Grammy Awards
After a show in Puerto Rico on May 31, he suffered a massive heart attack and was flown to New York City for surgery to repair a heart valve, but complications developed and he died during the night of May 31 – June 1, 2000. He was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003

Hour Two

Bruce Douglas Cockburn May 27, 1945 (age 70)
Attended Berklee School of Music in Boston for three semesters between 1964 and 1966.
While there he went to coffee houses and got to see all the major folk performers of the day.
Played his first gigs in The Boston Five Jug Band. Played in Ottawa.

1966 joined an Ottawa band called The Children
joined the final lineup of The Esquires. He moved to Toronto that summer to form The Flying Circus (Olivus) with former Bobby Kris & The Imperials members Marty Fisher and Gordon MacBain. Opened for The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream in April 1968.
Ended up in the band 3's a Crowd with David Wiffen, Colleen Peterson, and Richard Patterson
1969 quit the band to begin a solo career

US breakthrough: "Wondering Where the Lions Are", reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US in June 1980, and earned Cockburn an appearance on NBC's hit TV show Saturday Night Live.

Member of the Order of Canada in 1982 and was promoted to Officer in 2002.
1998, he received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada's highest honour in the performing arts.
has received thirteen Juno Awards, and in 2001, during the 30th Annual Juno Awards ceremony, Cockburn was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
