She placed 2nd in the Championship Class at the 1959 annual Canadian Old Time Fiddler’s Contest held in Shelburne, Ontario, being the first woman to do so in the nine years history of the contest.

Got the nickname "Kinky" because of his curly hair
1968 formed his 1st band, King Arthur & the Carrots, while a student at the University of Texas recorded 1 single
By 1971, Friedman had formed his second band, Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys
His break came in 1973 thanks to Commander Cody, who contacted Vanguard Music on his behalf
Always been very active Democrat in politics

Did a few years of recording and performing w Terry Talbot of Mason Profit

Sloop John B was a trad folksong from Bahamas. The song was first reported by Richard Le Gallienne, with five verses and the chorus published in 1916 Harpers Magazing
First popular recording was by Kingston Trio 1958. Johnny Cash did a version called I Want To Go Home, 1959
Beachboys had a huge hit with it in 1966 at the insistance of Al Jardine
Mcguire’s version of it came out the same year but is reworked and very different
